On July 12nd, 2019, Danielle Smith, a Calgary Herald Columnist, released an article highlighting the world's shift towards renewable energy and the need to find and develop better sources of key battery components. Demand for lithium has surged since 2010, owing to an increase in both cellphone and vehicle batteries, and the value has more than tripled, from about US$5,180 per tonne to about US$16,000 today.
