INTERNATIONAL: How could geothermal energy be derived from oil wells?

An applicable article from ThinkGeoEnergy on deriving geothermal energy from existing oil wells to either co-produce or convert the wells for cleaner energy uses. This method can reduce initial costs and utilize previous labour skills and infrastructure. A win-win for transferability from oil and gas in Canada to renewable energy production.

INTERNATIONAL: geothermal production in the netherland increased by more than 50% in 2019

​An insightful and encouraging article magnifying a success story on geothermal energy usage for heating. In the Netherlands, in just one year, geothermal energy usage increased by 51%.

​If the Netherlands can do it, why not here too? Canada has the capacity to achieve this level of growth! To foster rapid geothermal usage, CleanTech industries must target decarbonizing Canada's commercial, industrial, and residential heating and cooling. We should take the success in this article as an opportunity to increase our geothermal energy and heat production.
