Recent research shows that the use of coal power in Alberta costs $300 million a year in health expenses, is responsible for nearly 100 premature deaths, 700 emergency room visits, 80 hospital admissions and triggering asthma attacks. Dr. Vipond is an emergency physician and clinical lecturer at the University of Calgary. He is also a member of the Alberta Coal Phase Out Coalition and the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment. He will be discussing recent research that demonstrates the social harm associated with Alberta's energy generation policies, and how we can move towards ensuring a more sustainable pathway for future generations. Come hear Dr. Vipond, one of the physicians involved in this research!Following Dr. Vipond's presentation, CanGEA’s policy advisor, Justin Crewson, will be discussing the opportunities presented to Alberta policy makers by clean and renewable base load geothermal energy. He will also cover the international implications of Alberta's continued reliance upon fossil fuels for energy. Justin has graduate degrees in both public policy and political science, and specialized in international relations for the latter, which gives him a unique perspective on this matter.

With the low price of oil and the slow pace of CCS development, there is a timely opportunity for companies to access a new market that is looking for their expertise.
Registration for this workshop includes both the Luncheon Keynote Address and the Geothermal Resource Development and Canadian Business Opportunities morning session; both of which can be purchased separately. We will also be distributing a Technical Report post-workshop featuring key topics of discussion.
Can't attend the event, but still want to read our reports? you can access both of them by clicking here.
