Full Time Operations Manager (Youth Employment)

The position

CanGEA is looking for an Operations Intern for start date September 1st, 2017. This position will be based in Calgary, AB, and may include occasional travel.

Tasks 

  • Use communications and media platforms to connect with the public and the geothermal industry
  • Continually attract members to CanGEA
  • Support current CanGEA members
  • Provide administrative support to CanGEA
  • Plan events
  • Be responsible for all operations and income
  • Manage yearly memberships and payments
  • Update the website and PowEARTHful campaign
  • Use media platforms to communicate CanGEA's current events to the public
  • Assist with writing news articles
  • The position includes, but is not limited to, the above tasks and may include roles not listed that support CanGEA

Requirements

  • Ability to work in a low-structured, self-motivated environment
  • Knowledgeable about geothermal energy and passionate about supporting and promoting the industry
  • Effective in communicating both to the public and to members
  • Recognition of work priorities
To be ELIGIBLE for this opportunity, the candidate must meet the following requirements:
  • A post-secondary graduate
  • Between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive)
  • A Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada, or granted refugee status in Canada

Website Developer Summer Student Intern

The Position

​CanGEA is looking for an Website Developer Summer Student for start date between July 3-Aug. 7, 2017. This position will require occasional work within our Calgary office, but will be mostly work from home
​
​The internship will run for 4-9 weeks maximum at 30 hours/week, at a start date and length agreed upon between CanGEA and the applicant.


The deadline for applying is June 28, 2017.

Tasks

  • Make this website look better and more user-friendly
  • Create a members-only portal
  • Update data for the powearthful.org website
  • Create automations for renewals and emails

Requirements

  • The applicant must provide their own computer
  • Have a working knowledge of Weebly and WebFaction (or ability to learn)
  • Experience in website development or design an asset
The position is through a Student Grant and the applicant therefore must be: 
  • Already enrolled in post-secondary education
  • Returning to school in the following academic year (Fall/Winter 2017)
  • The applicant must also be a CanGEA Member to apply
  • Between 15-30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment (as per the grant)
  • At least 15 years of age
  • A Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or protected person under the Canadian Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and legally entitled to work and study in Canada.

Policy Summer Student Intern

The Position

​CanGEA is looking for an Policy Manager Summer Student for start date between July 3-Aug. 7, 2017. This position will be based in Calgary, AB, and may include occasional travel.
​
​The internship will run for 4-9 weeks maximum at 30 hours/week.


The Policy Manager Summer Student will be working alongside the full-time Policy Manager. CanGEA’s goal is to advocate for our members so that they are able to grow the Canadian geothermal industry. In CanGEA, the Policy Manager is responsible for translating policy priorities/gaps/opportunities identified by the Policy Manager, the CanGEA Board and CanGEA’s greater membership into clear, concise and actionable government engagement. The Policy Manager is the bridge between CanGEA members and policy makers. This means that the successful applicant will also be able to effectively communicate government developments, programs, stakeholder engagements etc. to the CanGEA membership as they are released. ​


Tasks

The successful applicant will also be responsible for supporting other CanGEA activities which include but are not limited to:
  • Planning and executing educational and capacity building events for diverse audiences
  • Growing CanGEA’s membership through impactful social media presence and one on one business development meetings;
  • Preparing grant proposals as well as identifying new funding opportunities.
The Policy Manager duties include but are not limited to:
  • Actively participate in all government stakeholder engagements related to geothermal;
  • Author memorandums and other government submissions, such as pre-budget consultations;
  • Develop strong and positive relationships with elected officials and government employees to build geothermal awareness and knowledge at the level of decision makers;
  • Craft professional reports;
  • ​Pro-actively engage Canadian government regarding geothermal.

Requirements

  • Has a professional attitude and experience in both technical and policy fields through a mixture of education and industry experience
  • Must be comfortable working in low structure environment which includes being able to self-identify work priorities and operate independently.​

  • Returning to school in the following academic year (Fall/Winter 2017)

The position is open to a diverse candidate pool and experience in geology is not required, previous Policy Mangers have had such backgrounds as Political Science, Law, and Biogeography. Please note that the age requirement is based on the requirements of the Environmental Youth Corps Internship Program, financed by Environment and Climate Change Canada, that is supporting this internship.
