CanGEA is excited to announce that we have begun work on an infrastructure assessment of Alberta’s existing oil and gas wells for geothermal potential. The assessment is being funded through a grant provided by the Government of Alberta and we thank them for their support. The assessment will determine which wells are best candidates for geothermal from co-production (the industry term for collecting geothermal energy from existing infrastructure) and the magnitude of the Alberta geothermal potential from re-imagining the purpose of oil and gas wells.
It is important to note that geothermal can be done in concert with already producing wells as well as the boreholes that have been suspended, or even abandoned; it is easiest to capture geothermal energy from producing wells. CanGEA will keep you posted as to the progress of the study and when we are ready to announce its findings. Comments are closed.
