Canada enjoys a rich heritage of geothermal resources that have been used for generations. The First Nations used the natural hot springs and pools for healing and spiritual purposes and regarded them as sacred wateres. Later as the Canadian frontier moved westward the hot springs and pools of the Canadian Rockies were discovered by early pioneers and settlers. Again, the significance and importance of the springs were recognized and helped to form Canada's first natioal park in 1887 - Banff National Park. [Learn More...]
ADK/Borealis Geothermal Demonstration Project
The ADK/Borealis Geothermal Demonstration Project is an innovative renewable heat and power project for a remote community in Northern Canada. It will consist of a geothermal plant which will deliver a minimum of +/- 1 MWe of electrical power (sufficient for ~750 homes or the entire community) and also +/- 1 MWth of direct heat, sufficient to power a local greenhouse complex for local food production.
